Electronics
I figured I would list the specs of all the electronics in my build for anyone who's curious...
Potentiometers: Two 500kΩ (for the humbuckers) and one 250kΩ (for the single coil)
Capacitors: .022μF
Neck pickup: Lollar Imperial (7.0kΩ)
Middle pickup: Lollar Special (7.1kΩ)
Bridge pickup: Lollar Imperial (7.9kΩ)
All of my switches are SP/DT with push on/off operation.
3D Modeling
I used SketchUp Pro to model my rout. I started out with a telecaster DXF file imported from the Google warehouse, then changed the slots to fit my electronics. After I made a 3D model, I reduced it back down into 2D layers so that a CNC router could read the files.
Neck & Pickups
I chose to order a custom neck from Warmoth. I'm building a Tele-style body, so I went with their Fender Telecaster neck. It's made of roasted maple for stability and a nice no-lacquer feel. The frets and tuners are gold to match my pickups.
Schematic
Here's what I'm putting on the inside of the guitar. It's an HSH configuration with coil-splitting switches and independent volume & tone knobs for each pickup.
Introduction
On this page I'll be posting periodic updates on my senior project: building my own electric guitar. I'll post some of the significant steps I've made so far and, later on, some informative videos for those of you who want to build your own guitars.
